Do all couples fight about closet space, or is it just us?

Disclaimer: I really like clothes. And shoes. And all types of accessories. I get it from my mother. My mother is not your typical mother who has absolutely no fashion sense. My mother knows how to dress herself. She's passed down the shopping gene to me AND my 2 brothers as well.  I didn't realize this until I took them out shopping around the holidays for clothes and I dropped over $300, 90% of it on them. They can easily outshop me, which is a terrifying thought.

Anyway, I always thought I'd go for a guy who was well dressed, but sparingly so. I.E. he looked good in what he wore, but he only had maybe 5 shirts, 5 sweaters, 5 pairs of slacks/jeans, 2 suits, and 3 pairs of shoes (black dress, brown dress, and some sneaks). I THOUGHT I'd gotten that in The Boyfriend. He's totally a guy's guy. Almost cliche how much of a guy's guy he is. He loves all things sports, and can watch sports from dawn til dusk, all year long. He also likes to fix things himself, he likes beer, hates my indie pop music, etc.

Turns out he's not as much of a guy's guy as I thought. . . .

So, I wanted to get my clothes in some sort of organized state before the new year. Since it's New Years Eve, that means I have a only a few hours to get this done (good luck). Unfortunately I found most of my folded shirts were in a miserable wrinkled state due to lack of space, and my sweaters were getting torn up since they rubbed up against the drawers since I had to jam them all into 2 drawers, again due to space.

"Argh!" I shouted to The Boyfriend. Why do I hardly have any space for my clothes?!

His response? "Because you have too many clothes."

To be fair, his response is probably true, however as I was stuffing a jacket into the coat closet, I realized that he actually had more coats in the closet than I do (and we live in Texas where it's hardly cold). So I proceded to take inventory of both of our clothing spaces and compare them side by side.

Shockingly, it is split pretty much 50/50. Which means if I have too many clothes, that means he does too.

Who knew I would end up with a closeted (pun intended) clothing whore like me? If we have kids, they might have to sleep in the closets while we convert their rooms into giant walk ins.

New years resolution as a couple. . . . organize the closets!!!!

This will cut into my TV time!

My family and friends must think I'm more creative/intellectual than I really am. I got a bunch of books over the holidays.
The Boyfriend's father is already asking me if I've devoured Steve Jobs biography. . . . Sadly I have yet to crack it open.
Actually, I take that back. My baby brother got me what looks like a trashy romance novel I can read whilst in the tub. He knows me pretty well.

My Perfect Day

Deepest apologies for the extreme absense. I was all set to give up blogging for good, but I actually missed it. So I'm going to go into the new year with expectations set high and start over. For realz.
Old Denton county courthouse
Obviously I went back to my parents' over the break. I normally go back to Denton about once every other weekend, but I never really get to enjoy Denton. I always  just go and hang out with my family (i.e. sleep in my old room and be extremely lame). But since I have a young 20 year old brother who enjoys discovering new things, I actually ventured out more than I normally would have.By "ventured out" I always mean the square. The Denton square is by far my favorite place in Denton. Growing up it always had a small town-y feel, and I loved visiting the old opera house that was converted into a recycled book store. The book store is still there, but the small town-y feel is starting to go away. . . . which may not be a bad thing.

Ye old opera house/Recycled Books store
Books Books Books! (And ugly carpet)
Denton is currently going through a "resurgence" to become a smaller version of Austin. In other words, Denton's trying to be hippy, but since it's a conservative town, it just comes across as hipster. Oh well. At least they tried.

The obligatory hipster coffee shop complete with leaf-y milk design
Don't get me wrong. There were still PLENTY of antique stores and kitchy clothing stores that sell overpriced aprons, however they were all closed due to the holidays (What an old fashioned concept. Who's closed the day after Christmas?? psh). So I was free to roam the brand new hipster stores. My favorite was a candy store called Atomic Candies that had just recently opened. Inside had an old retro feel (complete with old jazz records playing), however a lot of the candy was hilarious and I couldn't help grabbing a few mints and gums that had worldy comments on them.
candies I should've bought because they sounded yummy, but didn't because I was distracted by all the funny candies in there. Who knew candy had a sense of humor?
If I'm ever hankerin' for some jelly beans, I now know where to go. . .
Because who doesn't need a card catalog full of Obama-mints?

or bacon flavored floss?

What I ended up coming home with

So here's to Denton and the new year! See you guys soon!

I'm broke . . . . BUT. . . .

MMK, this picture is old and doesn't have anything to do with this blog post, but I think it's a pretty good representation of my attitude towards this topic.

An example of life imitating art. Not my art, but still. . . someone other than myself's art.

I've been reading Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella (I got a free copy of the book at Shecky's Girl's Night Out recently in Dallas). I haven't gotten very far, but the very beginning pretty much describes my life. The main character gets her credit card statement, opens it, realizes she's absolutely broke, tries to rationalize all of her recent purchases, finds a huge sale and buys a $200 scarf, and doesn't have enough money to pay her roommate back for rent.

Well, ok, maybe life doesn't imitate art EXACTLY, but I did get an email today, reminding myself that my credit card payment is due in 10 days. Reluctantly I looked at the statement amount and almost lost my lunch. I then tried to rationalize all of my purchases and made resolutions as to how I would start saving, and finally, I saw this blouse that I have to have. . . . but can't buy because I'M BROKE. Wah!
I'm so super tempted. . . especially now that I've made up my mind that I can't afford it. . . . this month. . . .

I've been working a lot of overtime lately. . . . . I kinda deserve it. . . . . . . . . .

Inspiration Peices

I've been working A LOT lately, so I've been oh so tempted to buy everything on site just to remind myself that I have somewhere to wear it, use it, eat it, etc (i.e. that I MIGHT have a life). So I'm just going to put some of what I have/been tempted to buy, and my reasoning for spending the money (or potentially spending in the very near future)

1. Alisa Michelle - Love What You Do necklace - The message on this necklace makes it pretty obvious why I've been wanting this necklace, especially considering the hours I've been working.
2. Essie Nail Polish - There's something about perfectly polished nails that make you feel a little bit girly and perfectly groomed, even if the feeling only lasts a day.
3. CW- X Ventilator tights - Since I've been so busy working, I've decided that when it comes to working out, I have to put my foot down. So even if I have to work all weekend long, I WILL carve out time to work out. The secret is, I've been working out with some girlfriends, so I'm killing 2 birds with one stone. Working out + girls nights out? Awesome.
4. Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System - Because who doesn't like clear skin?
5. Divaderme Lash Extendor - I have your typical tiny Asian lashes, which almost always makes me look tired. Here's hoping this stuff makes me look wide awake and lashtastic!

Draining Day

Boyfriend and I recently made a beer and wine run at a nearby liquor store. We left with a box full of stuff. We're not alcoholics at all.
The title says it all. I feel like taking a month long nap. I can't really go into specifics, but let's just say, I had one of those days where I was disappointed that I was spending my days in an office filled with cubicles instead of living my life doing something such as. . . . traveling the world.

So. . . . .

After work, I went to World Market and bought a bunch of snack foods and 2 bottles of wine. If you know me, I kind of go through stages.  Really they're not stages. . . . just different combinations that regard wine and some sort of food.

For example on days where I feel broke but still want to feel classy, I'll get drunk on boxed wine and satiate my pallet with some string cheese. Tres classy.

So what'd I get at World Market? Buncha crackers, $8 caviar, $2 fancy wine infused salami, ;$2 brie and again, 2 bottles of wine. Don't worry, I only bought the 2nd bottle because i wanted to try it. . . . on a night I'm NOT planning on getting obliterated.

I feel so cultured.

Valentines weekend

I don't really get why single girls hate Valentines day. Ok ok, fine, really I do, but when I was single, I loved Valentines day. It's an excuse to eat chocolates, watch chick flicks, and buy whatever you want for yourself as a "Valentines day gift" to me. In fact, when I finally had a boyfriend on Valentines day for the first time (with The Boyfriend) my initial reaction was, oh crap, I have to buy a gift for someone other than myself.

So, this Valentine's is the 5th V-day we've had together. Except The Boyfriend decided to go to his cousin's 21st birthday party this weekend. . . . in Vegas. Which means I'm all alone on this Valentines weekend. . . . . .

PAR-TAY!!!!!!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

(don't worry, the Boyfriend and I are still doing V-day. Just on ACTUAL V-day instead of the weekend before. Crazy, I know)

Cabin Fever

So, apparently I live in Canada. . . . NOT TEXAS!!!

Of course, the hilarious thing is that the news is more worried about how the super rich and/or famous out-of-towners will think of Dallas due to the Super Bowl being in town this week. . . . uhm. . . how 'bout you worry about how the super rich and/or famous out-of-towners WON'T run us Dallasites off the roads! We don't know how to drive on ice!
NO FOOTPRINTS!!! BECAUSE IT'S A GIANT SLAB OF ICE!

So, yesterday was the first day of Ice-ageddon, and originally I wasn't going to go into work because of this:
But then my boss guilted me into THINKING ABOUT going into the office. . . so I started to get ready, until I saw this:
Just for further illustration, here's The Boyfriend, sliding down the driveway to Bad Kids from the Black Lips

Of course, that video was taken right before he shoveled the driveway, so I will have to go into the office tomorrow, even though temperatures aren't supposed to be above freezing.

Oh well. After 2 days of being stuck inside, I'll go anywhere, even work!

Some excuses as to why I'm not blogging as much as I would like. . . .

REASON NUMBER ONE: Because I'm naturally a messy person and The Boyfriend is an anal neat freak!!
Reason Number 2: Moving into the Boyfriend's house: About 75% done. . .
Reason number 3: Cleaning out closet so my stuff FITS in the Boyfriend's house-90% done, if only I could STOP SHOPPING, I'd be done:
All the stuff I'm giving away. :(

Organized all my shoes. I didn't realize I had so many. . . .

Reason number 4: This pile of work refuses to go down. . . . It looks so much smaller in photos than in person.
AND. . . . . yeah, that's my life right now. Cleaning/packing/moving/unpacking/organizing/working. BLECH.
